Vienna Art Book Fair FAQ

What is Das Kunstbuch?

The purpose of the association Das Kunstbuch is to build a network of artists, collectives, self-publishers, small publishing houses, antiquarian booksellers, libraries, institutions, printing houses and all those dedicated to the medium of the printed book. Artists’ books constitute, in contrast to catalogues or monographs, autonomous and democratic works of art. The aim of the association is to disseminate and promote artists’ books in order to heighten the appreciation and visibility of this field.

What is the Vienna Art Book Fair?

The Vienna Art Book Fair #2 (VABF), which will take place from October 20-22, 2023 is an international festival for the promotion and dissemination of artists' publications and editions. In cooperation with die Angewandte - University for Applied Arts Vienna the venue “Expositur Vordere Zollamtstraße 7, 3rd District of Vienna” will be transformed on this weekend into an adventure park for booklovers. The Vienna Art Book Fair’s period of focus is the artists’ book as a democratic work of art. Accordingly, it is a major concern for Marlene Obermayer, the organizer and founder of the non-profit association Das Kunstbuch, to make the event free and open to the public. On an unprecedented scale in Austria, the Vienna Art Book Fair #2 offers for the second time a platform for artists, collectives, publishers, small publishers, antique dealers, institutions, printers and all those who are dedicated to the medium of the printed book.

How are exhibitor fees determined?

Are there opportunities for financial support?
Three first-time exhibitors in the Vienna Art Book Fair (artists, artists' book publishers, or collectives in the early stages of their career) will each be granted a free table. If you're a first time exhibitor and would like to be considered, please share a clear and concise mission or artist statement in the application form.

︎ If there are funding resources available through your government, universities, or other channels, we are happy to provide an official invitation letter from Das Kunstbuch as well as discuss helping with other related paperwork.
